My client a leading Fitout Contractor in Dubai is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and manage all design activities across interior, architectural, and MEP disciplines for a diverse portfolio of office, residential, and F&B fit-out projects.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring all design outputs are coordinated, buildable, compliant, and aligned with client expectations and project delivery requirements. The Design Manager will act as the critical link between design, engineering, and site execution, ensuring seamless transition from concept through to construction.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage the Design Department across architectural, interior, and MEP disciplines
- Establish design standards, workflows, and quality benchmarks across all projects
- Oversee resource planning, team performance, and departmental output
- Manage internal design teams and coordinate with external consultants where required
Design Development & Coordination
- Manage the full design lifecycle from concept through to IFC and construction stages
- Review and approve design deliverables including layouts, details, materials, shop drawings, and coordination packages
- Ensure full integration between architecture, interiors, structure, and MEP systems
- Drive effective design coordination and clash resolution across all disciplines
MEP Design Oversight
- Oversee all MEP design aspects including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and ELV systems
- Ensure MEP systems are fully coordinated with interior and architectural layouts
- Review technical submissions, load calculations, and system designs for accuracy and compliance
- Liaise with MEP consultants and subcontractors to resolve design issues and ensure buildability
- Ensure compliance with UAE authority requirements (DEWA, DCD, Civil Defense, Trakhees, etc.)
Project Coordination & Delivery Support
- Work closely with Project Managers, Construction teams, QS, and Procurement to ensure design intent is delivered on site
- Participate in technical coordination meetings to resolve issues and support execution
- Provide design input during tendering, budgeting, and pre-construction stages
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for all design-related matters
- Lead client presentations, design reviews, and workshops
- Manage client feedback and ensure accurate implementation across design stages
Compliance & Approvals
- Ensure all designs comply with local regulations, codes, and industry standards
- Manage authority submissions and approvals to meet project timelines
Reporting & Governance
- Provide regular design progress reports, issue logs, and KPIs to senior management
- Identify and escalate design risks, delays, or scope gaps with mitigation strategies
- Participate in project and operational review meetings
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and develop design and MEP teams to drive performance and technical excellence
- Support recruitment, training, and team development initiatives
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance design culture
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 8-10 years' experience in interior fit-out design
- Minimum 3-5 years in a Design Manager or senior leadership role
- Proven experience delivering commercial, residential, or F&B fit-out projects in the UAE
- Strong knowledge of UAE authority approval processes and design codes
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of interior fit-out design and MEP coordination
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks (preferred), Adobe Suite, and MS Office
- Experience in design coordination, clash detection, and buildability reviews
- Knowledge of sustainable design and integrated building systems is an advantage
